Please don’t ask me what I did while Paul was in California attending his nephew's wedding (Congratulations Doug and Emily!!) - I have absolutely no idea. Well, actually I do remember doing laundry and researching cameras before buying the one I did. Other than that, I cleaned, caught up with the “paperwork” that has been sliding for the last 6 weeks, and…..whatever.
Since Paul has been back, we have been busy.
The science floor had many interesting exhibits, including this one that showed Paul in a “different light” (warm areas are white, cool areas are dark).
The revolving exhibit was about plastic pollution in oceans. This display is from one collector who creates interest in the “trash” he finds by creating a story about the piece and how it became abandoned in the ocean.
My daughter had quite a few of this type of doll and since I can easily picture my son teasing her, this “story” hit home for me.
The weather was awesome so we spent an hour or so watching planes take off and land on Lake Hood.
With an average of 190 take off and landings a day, Lake Hood is the world’s busiest seaplane base. All the nooks and crannies of the lake are filled with small planes in “slips” similar to how boats would be. Over 1000 seaplanes are based here.
In addition to the fun of watching the planes, it gave me an opportunity to try out my new camera on moving targets.
In between all the fun, we had to prep for an 8 day stay in Denali National Park. We’ll spend 4 days at one campground and 4 days at another. We’ll have no electricity except the generator, and we won’t have access to many stores, so the refrigerator is full. Once we get to the second campground, we’ll be required to use the shuttle and won’t even be able to use the truck.
Rumor has it that there is no cell signal in the park, so we’ll see how cut off we are for the next week!
